After the insane recovery on Thursday, I had to take a break on Friday, as I was extremely tired and sore from hiking through the rough terrain yesterday. However I was able to watch a few YouTube videos on how to make and edit videos, which I took notes on, so that I could start making a video of Operation Falcon on the weekend.
I learned that the first step is to analyze all the footage and make notes of usable times. Once that is done and the clips have been cut, it is time to stich them and add music. This looked easy enough, so I decided to call it the day and start editing on Saturday.
The next day I spent hours watching all the footage and making notes, which was much harder than I first anticipated, and then I had to drastically reduce the amount of media, in order to fit the song I had chosen. Then I encountered another problem, where most of the footage taken from the GoPro was very shaky and there was a lot of spinning, making most of the media unusable. Finding all the media took most of the day and then I spent the rest of Saturday and the whole of Sunday trying to make the video in Adobe Premiere Pro. This took a long time, because I was learning the software as I was going, and in order to reduce the shaking, I slowed down the videos, but this had to be rendered before I could work with them, and that took forever.
As a final touch I changed the size of the video to be more cinematic and have a 2.35:1 ratio.
When the whole clip had been rendered out I tried to look at it with a “fresh” pair of eyes, as if seeing it for the first time, and I noticed that it looked way too edited, however I didn’t want to go and re-edit the entire thing, so I uploaded it to YouTube and categorized the experience as learning, instead of a finished product. This was my first video I had edited, so I didn’t think it to be too bad for a first attempt.
