Back To Building

Over the past few days I’ve been building the housing and trying to get the parachute made as well as possible, as this will be the final version, however there have been some delays, which resulted in more stress, which is what I wanted to avoid. We will be launching tomorrow from Intermet, and the parachute was only completed around 7pm this evening, which put a huge spanner in the works, as I wanted it finished and ready to go by yesterday. Despite the fact that it was late, it looked really incredible and was half the weight of the first parachute we made!

The housing has finally been completed, although it too came with its problems. The Polyurethane didn’t stick to its shape and expanded drastically, making it impossible to place the camera inside. Also, it was a lot heavier than anticipated, which was not good. I sort of fixed these problems by using a router to remove most of the Polyurethane and leave a nice well, where the camera could be placed into.

Once that was fixed I then had to cut holes in the side of the box for the GoPro, which I will be sending up for the first time tomorrow. I also had to find a way to hold everything in place, and after working through all my options, I resorted to duct tape and Velcro, which, to be honest, worked rather well.

I had to call it a night around midnight, and will pick up with the rest of the necessities for tomorrow’s launch tomorrow morning, as I am very tired and need a clear head for tomorrow.
